Fred Hoffman

Director of International Services, Group Exercise, Fitness, and Spa Specialist

Fred Hoffman began his career in the fitness industry over twenty-three years ago. A registered respiratory therapist, Fred holds a Masters Degree in Health Education from Boston University and a Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy from Northeastern University. Fred resides in Paris, France, and is multi-lingual. Recently, Fred was selected as a finalist for the IDEA Health and Fitness Association 2006 Fitness Instructor of the Year Award.

Currently Fred is a consultant for Woman's Fitness and Marketing at Reebok France, Team Manager for Reebok University in France, and a Reebok University Global Master Trainer. He is also a Master Trainer for Body Bar and Gliding and is working as a consultant for MegaForm, a Sports and Leisure Company. Additionally he is a part time faculty member at the University of Paris for the DEUST, Métiers de la Forme (University Diploma for Technical Science Studies in Health Careers), regularly conducts training for the French State Diploma, Métiers de la Forme at the Greta Antipolis, and is a guest lecturer for KineSport, a continuing education provider for Physical Therapists in France.

In 2006 and 2005 Fred held the position of Fitness and Lifestyle Director for Buddha-bar Spa, where he played an integral role in the development of the company's first Spa, and where he continues as a consultant as the company takes on more projects. In 2004 Fred completed a 7-month mission in Moscow as the Fitness Director for the Reebok Sports Clubs in Russia.

Fred continues to give weekly group fitness classes in Paris for employees of the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

He has introduced fitness programs in more than 45 countries worldwide. These include Abu Dhabi, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Dubai, England, Finland, France, Guadeloupe, Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Martinique, Mexico, Norway, Oman, Poland, Reunion Island, Russia, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia, Turkey, Zimbabwe, and in the U.S. where he has trained teachers in numerous states.

From 2000-2002 Fred was a featured presenter for Reebok's INNOVASIA/ REEBOK RESOLUTION tour, which took place in seven countries throughout Asia.

Fred has presented ten times for the IDEA International Conventions, and has presented at over 160 international conventions and events worldwide. He was the coordinator for The Reebok University Resolution Convention from 2000 - 2004 held in Paris, France, as well as co-organizer of the Reebok University Convention in 1994 -1996 and 1999, and Fitness Fiesta in 1997-2001 and 2003.

Co-founder of B.E.E.P. (Boston Elder Exercise Program), he is the former fitness director of the Joy of Movement Center in Boston. Early in his career Fred's class was voted "One of the Ten Toughest Workouts in Town" by the Boston Herald.

Certifications

Fred is certified by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

As a recognized provider of ACE CECs, Fred regularly organizes and presents continuing education programs, conducts workshops and gives master classes in France and throughout the world.

Media

Fred gives lectures on fitness as a private consultant, is a published author and has appeared on numerous TV and radio programs.

For more than 22 years he has been featured, mentioned, and had articles published in various magazines, journals and newspapers in Europe, Asia, India, the Middle East and North America. Fred produced and starred in 4 fitness DVDs that were released in July 2005. Previously, he choreographed and starred in his first educational fitness video "Mix and Match Hi-Lo", and was featured by Telstar Fitness with a Signature Presenter Series Step audio CD.

In 1993 and 1994, Fred could be seen daily on the Step REEBOK program televised worldwide on Eurosport and Star TV.

Competitive Aerobics

From 1991-1993 Fred was France's Head Judge for the ICAF Aerobics Championships, representing France two years as a Skill Judge for both the World Championships and the European Championships. He also implemented a training course in France, which trained and prepared participants as Skill, Presentation and Line judges.

Community Service

Throughout his career, Fred has been involved in community service and charity events. In 2005 he co-organized a fitness fundraiser for the victims of the tsunami in South East Asia, and he co-led an aerobic marathon for Fight AIDS Monaco, in Monte Carlo. He has previously given his time to the AIDS ACTION COMMITTEE and The Great American Smoke-out in Boston, The Paris American AIDS Committee, and the Dublin Rape Crisis Center in Ireland.

In July 2004 Fred graciously accepted to validate a thesis project of a Linguistics and Terminology student at the ILMH in Brussels, Belgium.

Professional Activities

Fred is currently serving as a member of the IDEA Group Fitness Membership Committee (2006-2009), and as a member of the Education/Scholarship Committee (2006-2008) for the Fit-For-Me Foundation .

He is a spokesperson for ACE and is a regular contributor to ACE publications.

In 2004-2005 Fred was a member of the development team for the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Certified Group Trainer instructor manual.

In 2003 Fred served as a member of the steering committee for the review of applications and presenter selection for the 2004 IDEA educational events.

In 2002 he was part of the development team for the Rep Reebok program for Reebok International.

In 2001 Fred wrote the curriculum for Spain's A.E.M.A. Personal Training course, and participated in the successful launch of this educational program.

In May of 1999, Fred participated in the First International Certification Meeting held in Milan, Italy. The primary goal was to create the first international exam for the ACE Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructors Certifications.

He was a guest faculty member of 'Children and Aerobics', a two day workshop presented by Lasell Junior College in Newton, MA., USA

Awards

Fred was honored as a finalist for the 2006 IDEA Health and Fitness Association Fitness Instructor of the Year award.

Fred is the second runner-up for the 2006 ACE Achievement Awards, Group Fitness Instructor of the Year and was first runner-up in 2005 and 2004. In 2003 he was the second runner up for the ACE Group Fitness Professional of the Year Award.

In November 2005 he was awarded as International Presenter of Excellence at FitCamp 2005 in Blackpool, UK.

Fred was elected to the International Who's Who of Professionals in 2001.
